Gifted Vs. Anointed

Part I: Gifts aren’t so great. Don’t get too excited.

Too often we are impressed by gifts (skills, talent) and we confused being GIFTED with being ANOINTED.

A gifted person can entertain and fill up a room, but the anointed can bring breakthrough and healing into a person’s life. When we get frustrated with stunted growth of our community, perhaps we need to question if we are leading by our gifts or by the anointing of God.

Understanding your gifts is important. However, often times when we realize our gifts, we yearn to be discovered, noticed, applauded by people for what we can do. When our character has not be developed and matured by God, our gifts can bring darkness and depression instead of hope and light.

We need not to be discovered (by man), we need to be developed (by God).

Christine used the imagery of how camera film (before the world of camera phones) had to be developed in a place called the dark room. There is a process before you can see the beautiful pictures. It is a long 9-step process that if skipped, would ruin the whole film and your picture would never be fully developed. Going through the entire process is important.

This is the same for spiritual growth and stepping into the calling God has for us. Often times we want people to discover how great, special and talented we are. We feel a rush when we do things well and people discover how awesome we are. We want immediate leadership or spotlight positions.

God does not have to discover you. He already knows you and created you to do great things. Before stepping into all that He has called you to do, there is a refining process. The dark room is a place where He works on you and addresses heart issues to mature and develop you into the person He has called you to be. The dark room is where he can turn you from a gifted person into an anointed servant of God.

Are you willing to go into that season of the “dark room” with God and let Him develop you?
